Three New Schools Opening in Austin

THREE NEW SCHOOLS OPENING IN AUSTIN AREA

Innovative Austin-area schools to uniquely serve Athletes, Gamers and Gifted students

Austin, Texas (May 22, 2024) — The highly regarded education team behind Austin’s  Alpha School, an innovative, in-person school that uses personalized learning plans for core subjects and project-based workshops to achieve high student outcomes announced today the opening of three Austin-area schools: NextGen Academy in Northwest Austin, GT School for Gifted and Talented in Georgetown, and Lake Travis Sports Academy in Lake Travis. The new schools will open in the fall of 2024.

For nearly a decade, Alpha School has been reimagining education with its proprietary personalized learning system and its commitment to helping students achieve their full potential. Alpha School creates an environment where students can master core curriculum outside of a lecture-based classroom through personalized learning, while focusing most of the school day on student passions and interests. These new schools will focus exclusively on students who are interested in esports, athletics, and those seeking a rigorous gifted learning environment. The new schools will use Alpha School’s patented 2hr Learning platform, which provides accelerated AI-assisted mastery learning in core subjects to achieve high levels of academic achievement. The efficient, personalized learning program frees up most of a student’s day to do what they love; sports, eGaming or advanced academic challenges.

Additional support, structure and guidance for these schools will be provided by a highly trained team of guides. Many of them, from top universities, with backgrounds related to the core missions of the schools (esports, athletics and gifted education).

After spending mornings on academics, this innovative learning model will allow students to focus on their passions for most of the school day and set high goals for themselves within their area of interest. Students will engage in project-based workshops to learn life skills like teamwork, leadership, grit, endurance, financial literacy, creativity and critical thinking.

“We’ve found that our students can learn in two hours what they would learn all day in a traditional classroom,” said MacKenzie Price, co-founder of Alpha School and 2hr Learning. “With an academic path designed around them, students master core curriculum in a shorter period of time which opens up the rest of their day to focus on doing what they love. We find students learn best while doing what they love so we embed life skills challenges into the esports, physical sports and gifted curriculum.”

Since launching a decade ago, students using the program have climbed into the top 2 percent nationally in math and the top 1 percent in reading and science on standardized tests, no matter where they arrive when they come to Alpha, even though they spend only two hours per day on academics.
