Do you ever think, “There has to be better way” when you’re traveling? Luckily, our team has done their fair share of flying across the country. Here are some of our favorite tips for the next time you jet set:

  1. Always create a travel itinerary and note confirmation numbers, addresses, phone numbers, etc. It’s great to have a centralized location when you’re traveling, but is also great for your office mates and loved ones back home.
  2. Always bring a pair of fashionable, comfortable flats in your carry on!  You never know when you’ll have to walk quickly to a new gate, navigate odd terrain, etc.
  3. Invest in an on-the-go phone charger (it’ll give you peace of mind)
  4. If you’re going to have a layover in an unfamiliar airport, research it before you get there. Identify a nice place for a meal and a drink so you’re layover feels like a vacation rather than a chore.
  5. For trips where you’re flying in/out in the same day, wear darker clothing so stains don’t show up (I don’t know about y’all, but I will never forget this tip!).
  6. Sometimes car service is worth the extra money; don’t be afraid to spend the cash if you’re headed to a big meeting. Fancy car and polite driver can ease even the biggest pre-meeting jitters.
  7. When traveling solo, consider activating “find my friends” on iPhone and connect with a buddy, that way they can see where you are if they’re worried (and don’t worry, you can always turn it off!).
  8. Bring a disposable toothbrush and travel toothpaste you don’t mind ditching after one use. It’s amazing how much cleaner you feel after brush your teeth! Especially after a day full of airport-ing.

We hope you take with you these tips for the next time you travel. We love making lives easier!

If you know Team Snackbox, you’re aware that we love food and drink. Our client, Adelbert’s Brewery, is Austin-based and one of our favorite beers to cool down with. They specialize in making bottled conditioned Belgian beers for people to sip, savor and enjoy—and trust us—they’re extremely enjoyable.

A huge perk of working in beautiful Austin, Texas is the abundance of establishments with cool ambiances and even cooler food and drink.  These are our top three Austin establishments carrying Adelbert’s.

Check it.

1.)  Whip In– This joint is in South Austin and directly off Interstate 35. You probably pass it when you’re stuck in traffic and get it confused with a small convenient store—but don’t let it fool you. This cozy establishment serves a wide variety of delicious Indian food, local beers on tap and has a small market equipped with beer aisles in which you can purchase brew.  They even have their own brew house where they create their own ales. Want to open one at your table? No problem. Pick up a cold Adelbert’s and enjoy some spicy Indian cuisine while listening to live bands outside. Can it really get any better?

2.)  Red’s Porch– Are you planning your fabulous Sunday brunch in the middle of your workday? We know what you’re envisioning. Dog-friendly patios, huge plates of food to cure your Saturday hangover and a wide variety of drinks. Red’s Porch is your go-to place.  Last but not least, Adelbert’s is on tap. Enjoy your food and drink on the huge outdoor patio that spreads across two floors—or eat indoors. Happy brunching!

3.)  Whole Foods Market– You’ve been to a Whole Foods, but have you visited the mother ship Whole Foods located on Lamar in downtown Austin? There’s nothing better than eating at one of the various restaurants inside, knocking out your weekly grocery shopping, and picking up some Adelbert’s to take home with you. This has to be the definition of productivity.

If you’ve had the opportunity to explore the options above, how about taking a trip to Adelbert’s Brewery in North Austin? They’re open throughout the week for brewery tours and tastings and have weekly food trucks to kick those after-work munchies. For more information about Adelbert’s Brewery, visit their website at www.adelbertsbeer.com.

Friday is a favorite around Snackbox HQ. Not only does it kick off the weekend—but it’s also causal Friday around these parts.

If you work in a creative environment, you often have a business casual dress code that allows you to dress a little less “corporate” and a little more fun. If you work in a corporate environment and get the casual Friday privilege but aren’t sure how to rock it–  read on! Team Snackbox loves stylish, but professional work clothing and we have a few pointers that will help you rock casual Friday and transition right into the weekend!

1.)  Jeans, Jeans,Jeans

If you work somewhere that allows you to wear jeans on Friday—consider yourself lucky! A good pair of fitted jeans is key in making any outfit work. Investing in one pair with a good wash and that fits your body well is important for your wardrobe. Make sure your jeans are at a length that looks great with flats, heels, or boots depending on the time of year. Usually you want a good dark wash pair of jeans that allows you to look casual but professional at the same time. The more put together your jeans look, the more fun you can have with a colorful or patterned top.

Pro Tip: Steer clear of holy jeans when it comes to the workplace. Just because it’s called “casual” Friday doesn’t grant you the ability to look grungy.

2.)  Blazers

Blazers are no longer just for corporate executives. Not only do blazers look good on everyone’s body type—but they come in every color imaginable to make any outfit fun. Blazers are great for during-the-week meetings, but pair them with your great fitting pair of jeans on Friday and prepare to look casual but polished at the same time. Investing in blazers of different lengths also benefits your wardrobe since they can be worn with dress pants, dresses, jeans, or skirts.

Pro Tip: Blazers that are too tight are often uncomfortable and not easy to move in. Blazers that are too large, usually make you look a little less put together. Aim for one that’s fitted to your body, but gives you enough room to move around in.

3.)  Flats/ Oxfords

We would never forget about the shoes! Most people feel obligated to wear some type of a heel throughout the week. The great thing about casual Friday is that slipping on a cute pair of flats or oxfords make every outfit look put together AND they don’t hurt those feet of yours.

Pro Tip: Steer clear from any type of open-toed shoe—especially sandals when it comes to causal Friday. Sandals usually don’t look professional in a work environment. Stick to flat shoes with a closed toe when it comes to finishing off your look.

Check out some of our favorite casual Friday fashion featured in this Creative CEO Pinterest Board. Don’t forget to dress up outfits with quirky hairstyles or fun jewelry. Express yourself but aim to remain polished.  Happy Casual Friday!!

Nothing goes better with cool weather and football than a juicy, well-flavored, turkey on Thanksgiving or any other fall day. It’s November and time to nail that recipe that yields one of the most exciting meals of the whole year. Whichever way you prefer to prepare your bird, there are a few tips and pointers to making sure it’s family table worthy. Team Snackbox is here with five fun and different ways to do turkey this year.

1.) Grill It: There’s no better time than now to light up that grill of yours and enjoy the crisp November air while relaxing with a nice brew. When it comes to grilling a turkey, make sure to break the turkey into wings, breasts, legs, etc. This ensures that each piece of the bird gets the proper grilling it deserves. Check out this simple, yet delicious grilled turkey recipe for more pro tips.

2.) Deep-Fry It: Deep-Frying turkey is no longer only a Southern tradition. Aside from the fact that this is the most decadent option, deep-frying your seasonal bird ensures fall-off-the-bone meat that is juicy and tender at the same time. If you need more convincing, deep-frying is one of the quickest ways to prepare a turkey. Take a look at a couple of easy ways to get that bird nice and fried!

3.) Smoke It: Are you a fan of smoked meat? If so, look no further. While it does take a great amount of time, smoked turkey provides plenty of flavor and is well worth the wait.

4.) Braise It: Braising is similar to “stewing” but requires less liquid. Why is braising your turkey this year a good idea? Braising ensures the meat is moist and tenderized, both of which are important when it comes to Thanksgiving dinner.

5.) Roast It:  Roasted turkey is a classic staple when it comes to preparing this seasonal bird and for good reason. It ensures a flavorful turkey and is easier than you think. For specific instructions on preparing the perfect bird, check out some instructions from the food network.

Your family has been waiting all year for your turkey, so make it well worth the wait. Whether your braise it or roast it, we suggest it tastes best with a good football game, plenty of stuffing, and lots of family.

November brings cooler weather, awesome food, and… moustaches? You may have heard the term “No Shave November” and November first, kicks off the first official day of the hairy month or “Movember”. Confused? Team Snackbox is here to explain!

Movember is a growing movement in which men (or “Mo Bros”) grow and maintain a moustache for a month long period to raise awareness and spark conversation regarding men’s health. All moustaches are welcome and the best part is the movement raises funds for prostate and testicular cancer. With research showing a man’s life expectancy is five years less than a woman’s, this fun and quirky action could make a difference in many lives.

Want to be a Mo Bro? You can sign up for Movember at www.movember.com, but make sure to check out the rules and regulations page before participating (yes, there are rules to growing a moustache)! Get more information and statistics on men’s health and help raise awareness with that manly moustache of yours.

Maintain the Stache:

Now that you’re going to have that moustache for the rest of the month, it’s time for a few tips on how to maintain and groom it. There are a few basic pointers to follow when it comes down to moustache etiquette:

1.)  Get equipped: The right equipment is key in maintaining your ‘stache. A single blade razor is all you need to maintain whichever shape you decide to go with. It’s small enough to let you get in there and angle your ‘stache exactly how you want. Click here for a few more tool necessities.

2.)  Stay Trim: When it comes to trimming your ‘stache, be sure to not trim facial hair too far above the top lip line. Use a comb to comb down facial hair before trimming.

3.)   Clean and Cleanse: Just because your mustache isn’t growing on your head, doesn’t mean it doesn’t need to be washed on a regular basis. There are several different scrubs depending on the ‘stache you’re growing and the sensitivity of your skin. For an in-depth consultation click here and find the scrub that’s right for you.

Happy Movember. Now get to growing your ‘stache and help educate others about men’s health!

Austin has become a prime location in the restaurant scene.  Get out of your food rut, and check out these hot spots.

●      Odd Duck – If you’re looking for a unique spot with fantastic grub then this place is for you.  Everything on the menu is delicious, from the baked “pretzels” dipped in mustard béchamel to the “fried rice” with soft cooked duck egg, oyster mushroom, shitaake, & hazelnuts.  They offer moscow mules on tap, made with their homemade ginger brew, and the seasonal frozen margaritas are not to be missed.  Check them out for happy hour, lunch, dinner, or brunch (Sundays only).  The atmosphere is also equally as impressive as their menu – quirky, and on point.  http://oddduckaustin.com

●      Sway – This place is, hands down, the best modern thai food restaurant in Austin.  Their food is fresh and flavorful, the atmosphere is intriguing, and the wait staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The seating at Sway is community-style, so it’s perfect if you’re dining with a larger group.  A few stand out dishes (although everything on the menu is delicious) are the pawn miange, XO mussels, nashi pear chicken, and tiger cry.  All of their desserts are a work of art, so definitely save room!  https://swayaustin.com

●      Kome – Sushi might truly be the source to all of lifes problems, and Kome does it right.  Their menu offers both traditional and innovative dishes, as well as fresh and delicious sushi and rolls.  Grab a seat at the bar if you can, and watch the sushi masters work their magic.  Also, no matter what roll you order – ask for the Go-Go sauce (you can thank me later).  This is definitely a prime spot for a first date. http://www.kome-austin.com/miso/

●      Quickie Pickie – Whether you’re in a hurry or having a leisurely time, this east side gem has everything you need, any time of the day.  They’re open 7am – midnight, and offer a fantastic assortment of snacks, tacos, sandwiches, salads, seasonal plates and more.  Their beverage selection doesn’t suck either- you can find 24 beers on tap, Counter Culture coffee, and a plethora of wines to choose from. They also love local, and make everything in-house, from scratch.  What’s not to love?  http://quickiepickieaustin.com

●      Contigo – Have you ever found yourself saying, “I just want to find a delicious restaurant with an incredible outdoor seating situation”?  Contigo is your answer.  They’re tucked away off Airport Blvd., and they only offer outdoor seating (with the exception of the bar area).  This rustic eatery offers small bites such as pigs in a blanket and ox tongue sliders, or more substantial items such as rabbit and dumplings.  Their burger is also incredible.  However, their brunch is definitely a highlight, and is not to be missed.  http://www.contigotexas.com/austin

●      Perla’s Seafood & Oyster Bar – Go ahead, ask anyone.  Perla’s is one of the best seafood restaurants in Austin.  Their seafood is the freshest, and I could easily eat a couple dozen of their oysters in one sitting.  They have a gorgeous front patio, and an equally alluring interior dining area. Notable menu items are the crab cake, bay scallop pozole verde (my favorite), and the crispy Texas gulf snapper.  Get fancy and order their fresh champagne cocktail of the day.  Bon Appétit!  http://perlasaustin.com

Cold brew coffee is the process of steeping coarsely ground coffee beans in water for long periods of time – usually 12 hours or more. This generates a stronger, more concentrated brew that has the tendency to taste a bit sweeter, due to the resulting lower acidity. It’s delicious and definitely increasing in popularity!

We have all heard of “bioengineered foods” or “genetically modified foods”, and we have surely also heard some hot debates on the topic. Many continue to ask themselves what exactly these foods are and does it do more harm than good?

Bioengineered foods are foods that have been engineered to contain foreign genes from either bacteria, viruses or other plants and animals to make desired traits more common and more pronounced. Genetically engineered plants are also resistant to certain insects or diseases, making them more likely to remain healthy, grow into their full-size, and require fewer pesticides.

Some benefits of bioengineered foods are the following: they are more nutritious foods, they contain fewer insecticides, they grow faster and become tastier, and they can increase food supply. Not much research has been done on potential long-term risks towards humans because scientists claim bioengineered foods are safe. However, some risks and concerns include genetic changes in plants or organisms that can produce allergic reactions to allergenic proteins (like peanuts or wheat), they can potentially create new allergens, bioengineered foods are not as healthy as eating organic foods, and there have been many health problems that have been found in animal studies.

Experts say that more than 70 percent of processed foods sold in the United States have genetically modified ingredients. Some common genetically modified foods are corn, soybeans, potatoes, tomatoes, squash, rice, oils, animal feed and salmon.

More than 60 countries have already banned or set restrictions on selling bioengineered foods. However, many companies around the world have been labeling their products to inform people that their products are non-genetically modified foods or “Non-GMO” if you choose to avoid eating bioengineered foods.
